how do i find lessons in swing dancing in the Birmingham area (AL)?

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

I’m 15 and would like to find summer lessons in some style of dancing, and i think swing would be fun to learn and energetic.

Well first off, if you want to learn swing dancing, and I mean real swing dancing, then avoid ballroom studios.

Swing dancing is a folk dance, not a formalized ballroom dance, so you want to learn from someone who knows the history of the dance. If you find someone to learn from, and they don’t know the Lindy Hop, then run for the hills, because they don’t know what they are talking about!

Anyways, where you want to go are the events put on by the Birmingham Lindy Dancers Association:

They have regular weekly dances and classes you can go to. This is the best way to learn, because you can meet people who are learning to dance, take a lesson, then apply what you’ve learned on a social dance floor.

Just remember that the important thing is to have fun, and to practice what you learn!

To talk about all things swing dance related, head over to the National Swing Forum:

If you want a little inspiration about swing dancing, check out this video from a professional Lindy Hop competition:

I hope that helps!

what are the rules and techniques of street dancing?

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

does any body know the rules and any techniques i will need for street dancing for my interview on my p.e. gcse if anybody could tell me the muscles used for the techniques will be good

any links to website will be good aswell

thanx

ther are no rules, you can search in
http//www.youtube.com/
http//www.metacafe.com/
for :crumping, breakdancing, martial art tricks, hip-hop, reggueaton, salsa tricks and swing tricks, and stepping

now the only things people use for competition is anything that is concidered a trick, of course cheer leading plays also a great part, when they all move at the same time using the same moves, yep

street dancing uses everything, you just need to make your own combos
